Start by walking around the outside of your home. Look closely at the foundation, walls, windows, doors, and roof. Check for cracks, holes, or gaps where pests could enter. Pay special attention to areas where pipes, cables, or wires go through the walls. These spots are common entry points for insects and rodents.



Small cracks can usually be sealed with caulk. For larger gaps, use weatherproof sealant or expanding foam. If you find holes around pipes, fill them properly so pests cannot squeeze through. Steel wool works well for blocking small openings that mice might use because they cannot easily chew through it.

Outside your home, trim bushes and tree branches so they do not touch the walls or roof. Keep firewood, cardboard boxes, and other stored items away from the foundation because they can provide shelter for pests.

It is a good idea to inspect your home at least twice a year. Weather, age, and normal wear can create new cracks over time. Fixing small problems early can prevent larger pest infestations later.

By sealing entry points and keeping your home well maintained, you can reduce the chances of pests getting inside. A little time spent on prevention can save money on repairs and pest control while helping your home stay clean, comfortable, and pest-free.
